"Killer" California Chardonnays by Bob Ecker, examiner.com

I recently conducted the great “Killer California Chardonnay” test by tasting, sampling and drinking - over 120 wines in a short period of time. That meant Chardonnay for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. These Chardonnays came in all shapes and sizes, from different regions throughout California, from large companies, family wineries and micro producers and in varying price points. What I learned was that – not surprisingly - there are many fine, well crafted, high quality Chardonnays being produced in California today.

Less is More. By AmericanWay Magazine

"…beyond the draw of buying exclusive, high-quality wines, the real attraction for visitors is meeting the vintners themselves - winemakers like Jeff and Karen Fontanella, who are forging a path to their passion and pouring it into a glass. 'Jeff is a balance specialist,' Karen says. 'He tries to get as many elements into the wine as needed to create depth'. To illustrate her point, Karen escorts visitors from their small tasting room to a behind-the-scenes area for wine storage and processing, where Jeff, surrounded by French oak barrels, explains the magic behind making an artisan wine."

Oh to live on Mt. Veeder with the Fontanella’s and the colored balloons. By Vintuba

Ok so perhaps a stretch on the Niel Young lyrics but the sentiment sure is there. It would totally rock to live on Mt Veeder like the Fontanella’s. You see Jeff and wife Karen have something of a paradise property where Jeff crafts some exceptional wines for his own label, as well as for custom crush clients.

Fontanella Family Wines, Napa: Inaugural Releases. By VINOGRAPHY: a wine blog

When it comes to family-run wineries, I always enjoy seeing how the many different roles and responsibilities involved in a full-fledged winery are divvied up among the family. Often, the winery benefits from the luck of a child that has gone into marketing as a career, or a sibling that has gone back to school to learn about enology. The combined skills, passion, and familial bond that makes such wineries tick can sometimes make for quite a powerful operation. I don't think I've ever seen quite the combination represented by Jeff and Karen Fontanella. They're just a young couple in their 30's, but in the space of 36 months they managed to have two kids and build a winery, while both working full time jobs. A feat only possible, but no less impressive, because of their unique combination of backgrounds and experience.
